Leading With Equity, Practicing With Purpose

Justice is not automatic. At SGB, we take pride in our legacy of challenging the systems that perpetuate racial inequity and the imbalance of power. Biases and systemic racism limit access, prosperity, advancement, and socioeconomic growth within BIPOC and marginalized communities. After nearly 60 years of fighting for justice, we acknowledge that progress has been made and recommit ourselves to advocating for equity and anti-racism in our legal practices, workplace, and communities. We strive to cultivate a culture of belonging informed by actions that embrace diverse voices and perspectives, empower our team members to thrive, and value our clients for who they are.

Ongoing Initiatives

SGB is committed to continually building an inclusive culture with ongoing supportive initiatives that reflect the shared values of colleagues, clients and community.

Advocacy

We advocate for equity and anti-racism in our legal practices, workplace, and communities – knowing this work is ongoing, imperfect and essential. We’re actively learning, unlearning and navigating the complexities of meaningful change.

We're Better, Together

Our focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and belonging serves as the firm’s north star. Diversity brings a broader perspective, equity ensures fairness in opportunity and outcomes, inclusion creates space for all voices to be heard and belonging fosters a culture where people feel valued as their authentic selves. Together, these principles shape how we serve our clients, support our team, and advance justice.

Spotlights around the firm

I was drawn to SGB because of its mission, culture, and people. We support each other, learn from each other, and enjoy each other’s company. Teamwork and camaraderie are core foundations of the firm. That’s what makes us excellent.

As one of the very few Black lawyers in this state compared to the number of lawyers statewide, one of the things that’s most important to me is ensuring that we provide opportunities for underrepresented individuals.
