Lifetime achievement award honors Roe’s dedicated career successes and leadership contributions

Schroeter Goldmark and Bender (SGB) is honored to share that attorney Becky Roe has received the Washington State Association for Justice’s (WSAJ) Pillar of Justice award.

The Pillar of Justice award is presented to “a person or organization who has made superior, extraordinary contributions or achievements to advance the mission of WSAJ through representation of injured persons, participation in legislative efforts, development of case law, or raising awareness of the civil justice system and the right to jury trial.”

Over her 45+ years practicing law – including over 30 years at SGB – Roe has built a career defined by landmark victories and tireless advocacy for victims of violent and sexual crimes. Early in her career, Becky worked for the King County Prosecutors’ Office, where she co-founded the Special Assault Unit in 1979 – one of the first in the nation to specially focus on the prosecution of sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence and homicide.

At SGB, Roe continues that commitment, representing crime victims as well as individuals injured in accidents or harmed by others’ negligence, establishing herself as a leader and champion of justice.

Outside of working directly with clients, Roe has spent significant time working to shape legislation, having previously served as President of WSAJ and authoring amicus briefs on pivotal legal matters. She also spearheaded SGB’s pro bono defense of the Affordable Care Act in 2012, which Roe and her colleagues were recognized for by former Washington Governor Christine Gregoire.

“Becky’s leadership and integrity have not only brought justice in individual cases but have also driven broader reforms that continue to protect communities both locally and nationally,” said SGB attorney and WSAJ President Elizabeth Hanley.

Roe was presented the award at last week’s WSAJ Annual Convention, this year held in Spokane, Washington. You can read more about Becky and her legal career in Elizabeth Hanley’s WSAJ Trial News President’s Column, here.
