We are currently recruiting for the following positions:

Paralegal

FIRM Schroeter Goldmark & Bender was founded in 1969, with the principle that ordinary people deserve first-rate lawyers when fighting against powerful interests. BASIC FUNCTION This position plays a crucial role in maintaining Elizabeth’s caseload and stewarding the positive forward progress of her cases. This paralegal must be detail oriented and able to fluidly prioritize different cases as needed. Elizabeth’s team focuses primarily on employment law, wrongful death, and serious personal injury cases.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Record and Research Management 40%

  • Order records as directed by attorneys (e.g. medical records, public records, etc.)
  • Conduct investigations and informal (third party) discovery in support of cases
  • Research defendants, witnesses, and potential jurors
  • Download, organize, and appropriately save incoming production from defendants
  • Prepare and organize documents for production to defendants in discovery
  • Prepare and organize documents for experts
  • Assist attorneys in locating documents for use at depositions, in court filings, and at trial
  • Review and summarize documents, highlighting important evidence for attorneys

II. Drafting 30%

  • Drafting demand letters
  • Drafting initial answers to discovery
  • Draft chronologies for attorneys
  • Draft correspondence for attorney review
  • Draft motions as directed by attorneys

III. Calendar and Deadline Management 10%

  • Calendar court deadlines
  • Schedule and calendar meetings and conference calls for attorneys
  • Monitor deadlines across cases and practice areas and notify attorneys as they near

IV. Logistics 10%

  • Handle all deposition logistics (e.g. prepare notices, arrange for the court reporter, etc.)
  • Provide support to attorneys during trial preparation and trial

V. Electronically File Materials with the Court 10%

  • E-file materials with the court in compliance with court rules

SUPERVISION

Position reports to shareholder.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

I. SUCCESS PROFILE

Knowledge of: Relevant technology ie MS Word, video conferencing, office equipment, phone system. Experience managing a facility, employee and client community.

Ability to: Demonstrate excellent communication skills, discretion, flexibility and the capability to multitask in a fast-paced legal environment.

II. CULTURE

III. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

I. 5+ years of paralegal experience in a plaintiff, civil practice

II. Working knowledge of state court rules including e-filing procedures

III. Detail oriented, organized, and comfortable working under a deadline

IV. Strong communication and interpersonal skills

V. Works independently with self-motivation, initiative, and follow up

VI. Fluidly prioritizes directions from supervising attorneys and paralegals

VII. Aptitude for problem solving technology and software issues

VIII. Strong, compassionate, and inclusive approach to teamwork

IX. Represent the firm in a professional and ethical manner

X. An interest in helping people seek justice

XI. Experience with Pro Law, CaseMap, and Digital War Room software preferred

BENEFITS AND PAY

I. Salary range: $75,000-93,000, depending on experience

II. Annual performance-based bonus

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

SGB’s main office is in downtown Seattle on the 34th floor of the new Rainier Square Building at 401 Union Street. Most of our employees, including paralegals, work a hybrid schedule, with the option to work remotely up to three days a week after an initial probationary period. Additional in-office, evening, and weekend work should be expected on occasion, such as during a trial.

Legal Assistant

BASIC FUNCTION This position is responsible for providing administrative and legal assistance to paralegals, attorneys and case managers.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Legal and Administrative Support 70%

  • Assist in calendaring, project planning, and task coordination and tracking deadlines
  • Open and close cases
  • Save documents, pleadings, organize files and assist in locating documents
  • Records requests
  • Schedule expert medical exams including travel
  • Prepare shell pleadings
  • Finalize any letters, calendar for entire team, prepare schedule/coordinate sub schedules, reserve conference rooms
  • Process invoices and assure payment
  • Finalize and send Notice of Depositions and Subpoenas. Handle all logistics related to depositions including scheduling court reporter, calendaring, and reserving conference room
  • Finalize and serve interrogatories, requests for production, ER 904’s, Motions in Limine and objections
  • Trial support
  • Other duties as determined

II. Intake Coordination Support 20%

  • Confer weekly with Intake Coordinator to assist in declinations and support functions as determined

III. General Paralegal Support/Back Up 10%

  • Assist legal team in a variety of tasks including maintaining client contact, managing files and calendars, scheduling appointments and meetings, and making travel arrangements etc.
